Are you ready to take your work with your process goals to the next level?
I want to introduce visualization. It’s a powerful tool used by athletes, business people, and others who understand the edge that mental imagery and rehearsal provides in creating their success!
thinking womanMost people I work with tell me they have heard of visualization and have tried before to “see” themselves as the success they are seeking. For example: standing on a stage holding up the Lombardi trophy, flying in their corporate jet to a business meeting, (or in the case of weight management) picturing their body at their ideal weight. While these images of success are exciting, they really don’t help us facilitate change and so they miss the true power that image work offers.
Here’s The REAL Skinny: visualization is most effective when it is used to mentally rehearse the behaviors that lead to success, not the success itself. With visualization, you can create and practice the behaviors you want to develop, and most importantly recreate them under pressure over time. (I guarantee Aaron Rodgers practiced staying relaxed and focused in a pressure packed situation long before he found himself in the Superbowl!) Mental imagery is a critical piece in making your intentions your reality, because it allows you to see your growth and break through your barriers.
So, let’s get to work and apply this powerful tool to your process goals. That’s right. All that work to get your process goals just right is getting ready to really pay off! You will want to spend time each day mentally rehearsing the image of yourself executing the behaviors you have in your direct control. The best part, it only takes a few seconds and you can do it anywhere! Visualize leaving food on your plate. Visualize the feelings of wanting to eat more, but saying no because you are full. Visualize yourself calm, relaxed and enjoying eating. Keep it small, keep it simple, and visualize one step at a time.
Exciting, I know. It’s way cool stuff, but then you are not just your average yo yo dieter. You’re getting REAL with your skinny!
