Mary, here is my CORE Concern:
“I am really working to understand awareness and how to use it to help me manage my eating. Sometimes I just feel lost and unsure of what I am looking to find. Can you give me a few hints on ways to help me become more self aware?”
You bet I can! I love that you are working to get REAL with your Skinny and awareness is definitely the first step! Self awareness ultimately leads to self regulation and more and more studies are validating this approach as essential for long term success.
Awareness is the fundamental basic tool we need for lasting change because it allows us to regulate our eating based on our unique needs.
Self-awareness is the boundary between you and your impulses and puts you in the driver’s seat to manage your eating
rather than your eating controlling you. Most of us approach our eating (and our lives) connected to our circumstances instead of our selves. Eating by the clock even when you’re not hungry or finishing all the food on your plate when you’re full is just a couple of examples of disconnected eating. Awareness connects us to our KNOW, the place where you will find your true hunger and fullness, as well as a lot of other cool stuff that makes life fulfilling! It’s what our CORE Approach is all about.
It is normal to feel uncertain and even awkward when you are learning something new; I think this is especially true with self-awareness. A great way to find your connection is to take a few minutes several times a day, sit quietly and move your focus inward. You may find that listening to your breathing will help you settle inward. Focus on your body from the neck down to really experience you at your CORE. All the chatter in your head will just confuse you from your true voice, so it’s important to practice tuning it out. Awareness really is about just listening and as is with all new skills, the more you practice, the more confident you become! Enjoy the experience… once you go CORE, you will NEVER go back!
