Rethink Failure

A weekly message to strengthen your CORE and develop your resolve.

Did you make a health resolution for 2014? If so, you aren’t the only one….Fifty percent of all Americans made a new year’s resolution to get healthier in some way or another. The gym is packed, the vitamin shelves are empty and the good news, according to statistics, only 20% of us have given up our resolve by this second week of the New Year. I’m guilty of new year new me resolutions myself…This is my 10th year promising myself to eat slower!

Resolutions don’t work for the most part. Too much, too soon is a big reason we abandon our resolve.

If you are struggling with follow through and keeping true to your resolution, don’t give up! A new way of looking at your resolve can bring it back to life! You’re not failing in your resolve, you’re just hitting a road bump! Success is never a straight line to the finish line. Starts, stops, setbacks, challenges, and unexpected pitfalls are not only normal, but important to deepening your resolve and commitment to change.

It’s time to Rethink failure. Step back, re-center and come back at it again…stronger than before! Here are a few REAL Skinny strategies to help you pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and start moving forward again.

Make your resolutions process oriented, not result oriented. This will allow you to focus your energy on what you need to do on a daily basis instead of where the finish line is and how fast you are getting there! Exactly the focus you need to create the consistency that produces REAL and lasting change.

Where is your breakdown? Are your thoughts not supporting your behaviors? Are your emotions toying with your food intake? Is the exercise class you signed up for just not your cup of tea? Figure out where you are stumbling and focus your efforts at change here.

jogging-women.jpgTwo steps forward, one step back. Expect setbacks. Even when you are at your goal weight, some days are just easier than others. When you have a setback, let it go and gently work your way back on track.

Come at it from a new angle. This year I am not trying to eat slower, I’m waiting a few minutes before I pick up my fork to eat. This new approach is allowing me the opportunity to center myself and take charge of my eating rate! My ultimate goal is the same, I want to eat slower, but breaking it down and coming at it differently is making a big difference in my ability to make the overall change I want.

Failure is not forever…well unless you let it be. Rethink your stumbles. They are not failure, just the opportunity to rethink your approach and your true resolve to change!

Get REAL. Get REAL with your Skinny. Rethink what it means to fail!
