What’s Love Got To Do With It?

Friday is Valentine’s Day, the day we celebrate love… or is it really love we are celebrating? Advertisers would have us believe that unless we surprise our loved one with roses, expensive chocolates, or beautiful jewelry we aren’t really “celebrating” our love. Now don’t get me wrong, I do enjoy roses, chocolate, and jewelry, but the sharing of these gifts has little to do with REAL love.

Apple Heart One of my favorite definitions of love is from M. Scott Peck’s book, The Road Less Traveled. In his book, Dr. Peck defines love “as the willingness to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth”. A powerful definition with a deeper understanding of love than I had known before. Love is always about the greater good with kindness and caring, but also respecting others journeys without rescuing and setting limits to allow growth beyond the immediate gratification of the moment.

We need love in our heart and in our life to experience the richness that life has for us, but also to carry us through the burdens and heartbreak we experience. We need it for the big stuff, but also for the little stuff. Most importantly we need love to allow us to grow, change and evolve! That’s why it’s a REAL with your Skinny principle!

So this week celebrate REAL love with an open heart and willingness to extend yourself. A healthy heart is a happy heart!!
