Eat Less, Enjoy More!

A weekly message to strengthen your CORE and develop your resolve.

It’s official, summer is here! Well, the unofficial kick off to summer anyway. Memorial Day weekend got me in the spirit!
Summer is by far my favorite season. The days are longer, the pace of life is slower, and I spend more time with friends and family. My favorite part of summer though is definitely the variety of fresh food that is available.  The colors, the textures, the flavors… they all pop this time of year. There is just nothing better than picking a ripe tomato off one of our plants (ok, so my husband is the REAL gardener) and biting right into it. Such a treat! Especially, when the juice just runs down my arms. It is a pleasure to my senses I look forward to all year.
Summer Dining This is all good news for getting REAL with your Skinny. Research shows that the more you engage your senses when you eat, the less food you need to satisfy yourself. You heard right – eat less, enjoy more. It’s a brain thing that works the portion thing. So, I say engage all your senses! Taste, touch, smell, sight, and sound – there is no better time than summer to experience fresh, delicious eating opportunities.
So this summer, keep your meals simple. Lighten up, use what’s in season, and minimize the prep. Eat foods as close to their natural state as possible. Savor all the aromas, textures, and tastes those “in season” foods have to offer. Think of new ways to awaken your senses while enjoying food. Use your environment to kick up your pleasure center as well. Take your meals outdoors. Nothing beats the aroma of food cooking on the grill (yes, my hub does the cooking, too!) Use bright colorful plates, napkins and flowers to enhance the experience. The good news, it all counts as pleasure in the brain center.
Sate early, sate often; push your plate away sooner! It’s how we do Skinny in the Summer!

Me? What do I do? I enjoy one of those fruity little frozen drinks in a cute glass with a fun little umbrella in it and watch the grill master work his magic. Yes, Summer is the best!
